Using design rules as a guide, not a law, with regards to visual weight:

There are a few basic design rules when it comes to user experience (UX) that guides our design. However, one must not fall into the trap of believing the rules are mutually exclusive or that one must adhere to the rules to create an effective design. None of that is more apparent than in creation of a visual balance or visual emphasis.

I assert there’s something else that makes Apple is unique amongst it’s (asymmetric) competitors (e.g. Google, MS, Samsung):

It only focuses on one customer: The Consumer.

In my experience, the behaviors and culture of an organization (large or small) that focuses on the Consumer as a customer is diametrically incompatible with the behaviors and culture of an organization that focuses on Business as a customer.

Illustrated by Sebastien Feraut and promoted by the Syzygy Group, it’s pretty much the equivalent to pouring Pixy Sticks into your eyeballs or watching about 30 seconds of Japanese prime-time television. In other words, it’s fantastic as long as you’re wearing eye protection.
